Let’s go back to Northern Ireland!

Fifty of our favorite friends are headed back to Ireland in September 2024 — our 28th Trip from the Shannon Pub.  

This is a Coach-Guided tour of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.  

From the moment we land in Dublin, we take care of transportation, hotel rooms, and full Irish Breakfasts every morning.  Also included are visits to the Titanic Museum, Crown Bar Belfast, Antrim Road, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Giant's Causeway, Donegal Town, Sligo Town, Knock Shrine, and the Cliffs of Moher.

You are on your own for lunch and dinner every day, which leaves you plenty of time to explore and make friends with the locals.  They don’t bite. We will recommend places to go each day and invite you to join us if you like.  

We are collecting deposits now to hold the fifty spaces available. 

There will also be a check-gathering party to pay the balance and meet fellow travelers.  Details will follow via email.

Itinerary

  • Day One

    September 16th, Monday

    We’ll gather at the Anchor Bar by Gate 8 in the Buffalo Airport two hours ahead of the flight — Roughly 3:00pm.

    We’ll fly through Boston this year. We are scheduled to leave Boston at 9:25pm and arrive at Dublin Airport at about 8:35am Ireland time.

  • Day Two

    September 17th, Tuesday

    Our driver/guide will meet us just outside baggage claim, and we’ll board the coach right away to drive up to the Titanic Museum in Belfast.

    After the Titanic Museum, we’ll do a quick driving tour of Belfast, and stay the night at the famous Europa Hotel right across from the beautiful Crown Bar! As usual, we’re on our own for drinks and dinner.

  • Day Three

    September 18th, Wednesday

    Today we’ll take the picturesque Antrim Road around to the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (optional and exhilarating) and Giant’s Causeway!

    Then we head into Derry City for two days & nights at the City Hotel, right in the middle of town. Not sure if we’ll do a Walking Tour of the Walled City Wednesday or Thursday. Plenty of time to visit Gweedore Bar, Peadar O’Donnell’s and Badger’s Pubs.

  • Day Four

    September 19th, Thursday

    Another night in Derry City.

    Day trip to be decided upon, perhaps the nearby towns of Coleraine and Portrush (site of US Open Golf tournament a couple of years back).

    Or, we’ll do a Donegal run. More to come as we get closer.

  • Day Five

    September 20th, Friday

    Out of bed early today - Every hotel treats us to an amazing full Irish buffet breakfast, including ALL the trimmings.

    It’s a morning drive through Omagh and Enniskillen for lunch either in the town of Sligo, or the Strand Bar in Strandhill, just outside of town at the surf center.

    Time for a nice lunch and a couple of pints. Then it’s back on the bus and straight into Westport in County Mayo. Westport is a great pub town, with lots of music. Matt Molloy’s Pub is famous, he’s the owner and a member of the Chieftain’s.

    On our own again for dinners and drinks.

  • Day Six

    September 21st, Saturday

    All day in Westport and environs. We’ll have optional coach tours available.

    You might want to walk Croagh Patrick, a mountain pilgrimage hike overlooking Clew Bay and the Atlantic. We’re staying both nights at the Castlecourt Hotel right in Westport Town.

  • Day Seven

    September 22nd, Sunday

    We’ll board the coach for a drive into Galway City for lunch.

    We’ve got all day and night in one of the most fun and exciting shopping and touring destinations in Europe. If you can’t have fun in Galway, well…

    Loads of pubs and restaurants. It’s a college town, so the youth keep things bustling. Our hotel for two nights is now named the Leonardo Hotel, formerly the Jury’s Inn. RIGHT in town, great location.

  • Day Eight

    September 23rd, Monday

    A fun and scenic day trip to the Cliffs of Moher, with lunch in the music town of Doolin.

    Then back to Galway for dinner and fun. This is our last night in town.

  • Day Nine

    September 24th, Tuesday

    We may need to get up a little early today, and board for the ride to Shannon Airport. The flight doesn’t leave for Boston until 1:45pm local, but we’ve got to be there three hours early to go through customs and immigration — straight to the famous Irish Coffee Bar in the terminal.

  • Our long-time guide/driver Dave has retired from driving, unfortunately! He has, however, promised to meet us for a pint when we get to Killarney. So, we’re not sure who his replacement will be, but I’m confident he’ll be fun. And knowledgeable. And funny! Oh, and a good, safe driver. With that in mind, we require a minimum 30 Euros (currently at $1.10/Euro) gratuity, and ask each person to give it to him personally at some point during the week.
